Task Forces

The Academy of Radiology Research has established task forces in order to help guide its efforts in three main areas: public relations, scientific liaisons, recognition of researchers and government relations.

Scientific Liaisons Task Force
Chair: Carolyn Meltzer, MD
Goal: to develop relationships with NIH Institute directors and work to include more imaging researchers on NIH study sections and advisory committees.

Public Relations Task Force
Chair: Steve Seltzer, MD
Goal: to develop relationships between radiologists and patient groups, and to educate the public on imaging issues.

ARR Distinguished Investigator Program
Chair: Stan Baum, MD
Goal: to promote the development of imaging scientists by recognizing those who have reached a high level of accomplishment in Radiology and Imaging Science research, with a special emphasis on patient care responsibilities.

Academy Government Relations Task Force
Chair: Steve Seltzer, MD
Goal: to provide guidance on all issues related to our legislative initiatives and agenda.

The Academy of Radiology Research is an alliance of 26 professional imaging societies. Established in 1995, the Academy was the catalyst for creating the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), for supporting its growth and development, for accelerating investment in vital imaging research areas by other NIH institutes, and for building support for radiology and imaging in Congress and the Executive Branch. The Academy also compiles data on imaging research, such as NIH rankings of grants to Radiology departments.
