Andrew Smith, MD, PhD

Dr. Smith is the Chair of the Department of Radiology at St Jude Children’s Hospital. He obtained his MD and PhD in Molecular/Cell Biology at the Medical College of Ohio. He then completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Cleveland Clinic and his fellowship in Abdominal and Oncologic Imaging at Cleveland Clinic.

Before joining St Jude, he was at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as the Innovation in Radiology Vice Chair, Human Imaging Core Lab director, and Clinical AI Director.

Dr. Smith’s research interests include clinical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Radiology, AI in tumor response evaluation and detection of cancer, AI for opportunistic screening of diseases, and the use of large language models in radiology reporting.

He is a Society of Advanced Body Imaging Board Member and a Society of Abdominal Radiology Fellow.
