The Academy has made the difficult, but necessary and responsible decision to cancel our Spring Academy Medical Imaging Technology Showcase and all related events and meetings held, from May 3rd to the 5th, in Washington DC.
Our decision was based on continued travel restrictions issued by our member medical institutions and the CDC public health recommendations to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19. We expect the pandemic and the ever-updating guidelines to affect the ability to host events on Capitol Hill and in person meetings at NIH well into the spring. So that those of you who made flights are able to cancel and plan accordingly, and to ensure the safety and health of all, we feel this was the best decision we could make with the information we have.
The Academy will reschedule for next spring!
How the Academy will proceed: CECI2 2020 COUNCIL:
- This class will engage and participate in all 2021 events, which we are working to reschedule ASAP. Please be on the lookout for a poll with two potential dates that do not conflict with other society meetings.
- Renee Cruea, our Executive Director, will continue all one on one calls with each of you if that has not happened yet, so please still connect with me on the scheduled date and time.
- We will begin creating opportunities to engage and connect with each of you individually and as a class. This postponement gives us the unprecedented opportunity to develop a year’s worth of ways to connect virtually to one another, and to the NIH and Capitol Hill prior to next year’s events. We will also be reaching out for your feedback and participation, as well as to provide value and preparation. One idea is to connect each of you virtually with a program officer at the NIH and host webinars with various Institutes and Centers as you all begin to consider grant applications for the summer months, or if you simply want to begin the process of connection and learning.
LOGISTICS AND CANCELLATIONS FOR TRAVEL/HOTEL:
You can find information and assistance with cancelling travel or logistics on our Academy MedTech webpage. If this link does not provide you with what you need, reach out to Emily.
In summary, while this cancellation is not what we had hoped for, it presents the Academy staff with new opportunities and we look forward to working with you all over the next 12 months to transform our events and ensure you are all professional advocates well before the events next year!
