Since 2012, the Academy has hosted an educational event on Capitol Hill to educate Members of Congress about the impact and value of medical imaging research. Invited guests include Congressional Representatives and their Staff, Government Agencies and Patient Advocates. The Academy Council of Early Career Investigators from more than 20 Academic Radiology Departments will showcase their research at this evening event to be held on Tuesday, March 5th from 5-7pm EST. The Academy will be presenting Congresswoman Anna Eshoo with a Gold Medal for Advocacy. Congresswoman Eshoo is one of the very first Congressional Champions for our community and the force behind out efforts to create NIBIB. We hope that you will join us. Please save this date.

This year’s 12th Annual Spring events and meetings includes our 2024 Medical Imaging Technology Showcase (MedTech24), a Research Roundtable, and a day of advocacy on Capitol Hill.

Academy-CIBR Research Roundtable Event
Cosponsored by the Radiological Society of North America

At the Academy’s annual Research Roundtable event, key representatives from academia, industry, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agencies meet to discuss key topics identified by the Academy’s Coalition for Imaging & Bioengineering (CIBR) Steering Committee.

Speakers and topics include “Artificial Intelligence in Imaging” (Charles Kahn, MD, MS, Electra Paskett, PhD, Andrew D. Smith MD, PhD, and Greg Sorensen, MD), and “Sustainability in Imaging and Healthcare” (Reed Omary, MD, MS, and Beth Zigmund, MD).

This event on Capitol Hill provides members of our Council of Early Career Investigators in Imaging (CECI²), the unique opportunity to display hands-on, interactive, and informative examples of their vital research efforts to policymakers, representatives from NIH, Academy leadership, and the attendees from the Research Roundtable. Throughout this event, the Academy demonstrates the value of NIH’s continued funding by showcasing the newest imaging research and technology across the country.

Advocacy Hill Day
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM ET
This annual day of advocacy offers attendees the opportunity to meet with their members of Congress in person in their Washington, DC offices. During these meetings, members have the opportunity to discuss their research/connection to imaging research as well as highlight the importance of increased funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
