Rebecca Rakow-Penner, MD, PhD

Dr. Rebecca Rakow-Penner earned both her medical degree and PhD in biophysics from Stanford University. Her current research concentrates on advanced diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for evaluating early response to radiation treatment in cervical cancer. Dr. Rakow-Penner’s research is dedicated to improving women’s healthcare. She is currently a radiologist and associate professor of radiology at the University of California, San Diego. 

She is a recipient of the following awards and acknowledgments: 

Julia Schaffner Memorial Prize for Women in Science from Harvard Wissman International (2001)
Gold Star Award from the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (2012)
RSNA Lucy Frank Squire Distinguished Resident Award in Diagnostic Radiology (2016)
UC San Diego Elliot C. Lasser Award for Excellence in Research (2017)
American Roentgen Ray Society Clinical Educator Award for Training (2019)
The Early Career Award from the California Breast Cancer Research Program (2020-2021)
T-32 Mentorship Award from the University of California San Diego Radiology Department (2020)
