Ruth Carlos, MD, MS, FACR

Dr. Ruth C. Carlos received her medical degree from the University of Chicago and completed her residency at the same institution. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in the School of Public Health from the University of Michigan. In January of 2019, Dr. Carlos was named the first woman editor-in-chief of a major radiology journal, the Journal of the American College of Radiology. She went on to serve as the President of the American Roentgen Ray Society for the 2019-2020 term. Dr. Carlos also served as the Assistant Chair for Clinical Research at the University of Michigan.

She is an elected fellow of the American College of Radiology and the Society of Computed Tomography and Magnetic resonance. She also currently chairs the GE AUR Research Radiology Academic Fellowship (GERRAF). GERRAF is a national program supporting early stage investigators in health services research and healthcare delivery. Dr. Carlos is herself an alum of this program and has mentored many reward recipients during her time as chair. Dr. Carlos is currently a professor of radiology at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs and Community Engagement for the Department of Radiology.
