Ruth Carlos, MD, MS, FACR

Dr. Ruth C. Carlos received her medical degree from the University of Chicago and completed her residency at the same institution. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in the School of Public Health from the University of Michigan. In January of 2019, Dr. Carlos was named the first woman editor-in-chief of a major radiology journal, the Journal of the American College of Radiology. She went on to serve as the President of the American Roentgen Ray Society for the 2019-2020 term. 

Dr. Carlos has been on the faculty at the University of Michigan since 1998 where she currently serves as the Assistant Chair for Clinical Research. She is an elected fellow of the American College of Radiology and the Society of Computed Tomography and Magnetic resonance. She also currently chairs the GE AUR Research Radiology Academic Fellowship (GERRAF). GERRAF is a national program supporting early stage investigators in health services research and healthcare delivery. Dr. Carlos is herself an alum of this program and has mentored many reward recipients during her time as chair. 

She is a recipient of the following awards and acknowledgments:
The Gold Medal from the Association of University Radiologists
Distinguished Educator Award from the Radiological Society of North America
The Stanford Medicine X Research Challenge Grand Prize
Paul C. Hodges Excellence Award
